So you've been wondering what happened to Grey's Anatomy and if it's ever coming back.
Answer from Carina:
Good news! Your favorite medical drama/guilty TV pleasure, Grey's Anatomy, returns on Thursday March 14th, 2024 at 9pm/8pm central. for Season 20. It's going to run 10 episodes. The first three episodes will be dropped for three weeks in a row 3/14, 3/21, and 3/28. Based on the trailer, Jessica Capshaw aka Dr. Arizona Robbins and (reportedly) Alex Landi aka Dr. Nico Kim are guest starring for a few episodes.
Wait, did you say 10 episodes?
Yes, I did. Because of the Writers and Actors strikes of 2023 delayed writing and filming. The season started actual work right before Thanksgiving in 2023 with a table read. Since time only travels in one direction, we're getting only 10 episodes. At least it seems like Ellen Pompeo will be back for a few episodes. Probably 4 of 10 many industry and long-time watchers guess.
What? She's not coming back? She's in the trailer all the time!
Ellen Pompeo is no longer full time on Grey's Anatomy as of mid season 19, but she still provides the voiceover work. Her on TV sister Kelly McCreary has also left the show in Season 19, and no word on if she's coming back. (Her TV husband stayed, as did Scott Speedman who plays Meredith's Grey's love interest.) Shonda Rhimes left running the show in 2015, and the newish show runner Krista Vernoff left last season, now replaced by Meg Marinis.
I'm so confused. Who else is left? Any originals?
Other than Ellen Pompeo part time, Chandra Wilson, Dr. Bailey, and Jim Pickens, Jr, Dr. Webber, are the only remaining original cast members.
Other long-time cast members that are returning include Kevin McKidd (Owen Hunt), Kim Raver (Teddy Altman), Camilla Luddington (Jo Wilson), Caterina Scorsone (Amelia Shepherd), and more. Season 19 introduced five new interns who are all returning. One of the interns is even related to Amelia - no the show isn't going to be changed to Shepherd's Anatomy.
Can you explain the weird rumor I heard about Taylor Swift?
The rumor isn't directly about Grey's Anatomy - though her music appeared on the show. It's an issue of bad planning. Disney owns ABC and Disney+. For mysterious reasons, Disney+ decided to release Taylor Swift's Eras Tour Movie on Disney+ at the exact same time slot as Grey's Anatomy and Station 19.
Oh, FYI, this is Station 19's final season and 9-1-1 just joined the lineup - more on that later.
Too many changes. Tell me something I can depend on.
